About keel
keel is a household budgeting and financial-coaching app for the UK. It reads the bank statements you already have, sorts every transaction across every account, and shows you a clear monthly picture of where your money goes, with a plain suggestion of what is worth doing next.
Why we built it
Most money apps report the past. They tell you what you spent and leave the thinking to you, usually in a spreadsheet on a Sunday evening. keel is built to do the opposite: to be the calm, grown-up coach that notices the one thing worth your attention this month and says it plainly.
We built keel household-first because money is rarely a solo problem. Couples and families share accounts, split bills, and carry different incomes, yet most tools still treat everyone as an individual. keel gives a household one honest picture, without asking anyone to link accounts they would rather keep separate.
What keel does
- Import without a bank connection. Upload CSV or PDF statements from the UK banks you already use. Open Banking is on our roadmap, not a requirement.
- Categorise automatically. keel names and files every transaction and learns your household's patterns over time.
- Report clearly. Monthly income and spending, a full profit-and-loss view, and six-month trends.
- Coach, not just report. A plain-English next move each month, and a household financial health score.
- Plan ahead. Budgets, savings goals, and a debt-repayment plan with a debt-free date to work towards.
keel is especially useful for the self-employed, where personal and business spending get tangled across accounts. keel surfaces the personal spending hiding in a business account and keeps business costs out of your household budget.
What keel is not
keel is a budgeting and coaching tool, not accounting or tax software, and it does not provide regulated financial advice. It helps you understand your own money and decide for yourself. Everything keel shows is your data, explained clearly, so the decisions stay yours.
