Deleting your account or household
How to permanently delete your data, the 14-day grace period, and what gets removed.
You can permanently delete your data from keel whenever you want. It's in Settings → Household, under Danger zone, and there are two kinds of deletion depending on whether you're the household owner.
How it works
Deleting the whole household (owner only) removes everything: every account, transaction, budget, goal and report, and every member's login. To make sure it's deliberate, you type your household name to confirm. keel then schedules the deletion for 14 days later and locks the household — it goes read-only and shows the date it'll be deleted. You can cancel any time during those 14 days. When the date arrives, your data is permanently removed from keel, your login is deleted, and your analytics profile is purged.
Deleting just your own data is for household members who aren't the owner. It happens straight away: your login and identity are removed and you're signed out. Anything you imported into the shared household stays as household data — it belongs to the household, not to you on your own.
Why it works this way
The 14-day wait is on purpose. Deleting a household is permanent and there's no undo afterwards, so keel holds off for a fortnight to protect against an accidental tap or someone getting into your account. You stay in control the whole time — the household is locked from changes but you can always sign in to cancel.
If you're the only person in your household, you're the owner, so "Delete household" is simply how you delete your own account.
Good to know
- During the 14 days the app is read-only: you can look and cancel, but not import or edit anything that's about to be deleted.
- Deleting your household doesn't delete a co-member's personal login to keel — they lose the shared household and its data, and would start fresh next time.
- Deleting in keel never touches your bank. It only removes what keel holds.
- Some things genuinely can't be pulled back: anything keel already sent to its AI provider to categorise your transactions is subject to that provider's own retention. keel's own copy of your data is fully removed.
FAQ
Can I undo a deletion after the 14 days? No — once it runs it's permanent. Cancel within the window if you change your mind.
Will my partner lose their keel login if I delete our household? They lose the household and its data, but their personal login stays — they'd set up a fresh household next time they sign in.
