Searching keel

keel has one place to look up anything: a merchant, a spending category, or a specific transaction. Open it from any screen by pressing ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows), clicking the Search field at the top of the sidebar, or tapping More → Search on mobile.

How it works

Type a few characters and results appear as you go, grouped into three sections:

• Merchants — jump to a merchant's page, where you can see what you typically spend there and how often. Usually the fastest way to answer "what do I normally spend at this shop?"
• Categories — jump to a category's page with its monthly average and breakdown. Category words like "water" or "gym" bring up the matching category here.
• Transactions — the individual lines that match, with a link to open the full list.

You can search by merchant name, by note, by a category word, or by amount. Type a number like 42.50 to match transactions around that value, or £42.50 to match the amount exactly. Press Enter to open the full search page, or Escape to close.

Good to know

• Search covers your whole history. It doesn't matter how far you've scrolled: a transaction from a year ago is as findable as last week's.
• It knows your renames. If you've renamed or merged a merchant, searching the name you see now finds transactions that were originally imported under a different name.
• Category words give you the category, not a flood of rows. Searching "boots" shows your Boots transactions plus a tappable Health card, rather than every health-related transaction you have.
• The search page has its own address. Your query stays in the address bar, so you can bookmark or share a search.

FAQ

Where's the search bar? Top of the sidebar on desktop, or press ⌘K from anywhere. On mobile it's under More → Search.

Why doesn't a category word list all those transactions? Because the category page (with its average and breakdown) is usually more useful than a long list. Tap the category card to see everything in it.

Nothing happens when I type one letter. Search needs at least two characters, otherwise almost everything would match.
